ONE-OF-A-KIND QUILT JACKETS
The history of these fun jackets is brief and purely accidental. And I love stories like this! But they became a phenomenon as soon as the first one hit the streets. I had no intention of making more than one. I've never been a seamstress and run a busy coaching business.
My daughter, Mariah lived in Montana and saw something on Instagram where someone has made some clothing out of a quilt and she mentioned it would be fun to have a quilt jacket for the cooler mountain evenings. I didn't give it another thought until I ran across an old quilt in my basement closet months later. My grandmother had made it for her brothers when Mariah was born. It hadn't seen the light of day in literally twenty years. So, I thought, "What the Hell"- and I dug out my old Sears sewing machine, which hadn't been out of the box in over 30 years and gave this quilt a new life.
Made with lots of love, a small amount of bloodshed and a few select curse words, my experimental overcoat traveled to Montana with me and made it's debut into the world the next day. Honestly, there was not one single place we went that someone didn't stop us and ask where she got it. While that was flattering, what stuck with me the most is how much she loved on this jacket. It softly wrapped around her like a big warm hug from the great-grandma she had never met. And it gave her comfort.
I decided to make one for myself. The first time I wore it, someone bought it off my body at Trader Joe's. And I knew I was onto something. After all, who of us couldn't use a cozy, loving hug from our grandma right about now?
These stunning coats are handmade from super-soft vintage, well-loved quilts. Quilts are all tested for durability and quality condition. Since these materials have lived a previous life and are all made from hand-pieced quilts, each jacket has it's own magical imperfections and marks of history. Every collar is accented with beautiful antique embroidered lace hankies and our signature Bliss Blanket tag. Prices vary depending on cost of materials and labor. Spot cleaning only is recommended.

Miss Muffet Bliss Blanket
Is there anything sweeter than the Sunbonnet Babies quilting pattern? It appeared first in 1910 in the Ladies Home Journal The pattern was popular during the Great Depression. In the American South, it was often known as "Dutch Doll" until the 1970s. This darling jacket runs on the smallish side, but could fit up to about a size 10-12 comfortably. This quilt came to me via a tiny antique shop in Pomeroy, Iowa. From the colors - to the fabric feel - to the tiny flowers on the vintage hanky - to the loving patina, everything about it speaks ever so softly. S-M
